New carriageway 'significant' for summer traffic

A new dual carriageway will "make a significant and positive difference" to journeys in Cornwall, its project director said.
Construction work for the £330m A30 scheme between Chiverton Cross and Carland Cross roundabouts started in 2020 but completion was delayed several times.
National Highways opened the road in June but implemented some road closures to complete footpaths and cycle paths.
The A30 is one of the main routes in and out of Cornwall and connects with main tourist spots like Truro. It often experiences heavy traffic in summer with holidaymakers visiting the region.
Nick Simmonds-Screech, National Highways project director, said: “This will make a significant and positive difference to the journeys of visitors, local communities, and businesses – this year and into the future.
"I would like to thank everyone in Cornwall for their patience and support since construction started back in 2020.”
Rob Taylor, Costain project director, said to see the traffic "flowing freely" on the carriageway was "incredibly fulfilling".
He added: "The scheme will unlock greater mobility and be a catalyst for growth throughout the region, particularly as we reach the school summer holidays.”
