A shopping centre in Surrey was evacuated after a fire broke out.

The evacuation at The Heart in Walton-on-Thames started at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday.

Twelve Surrey Fire and Rescue Service engines were at the site before the blaze was extinguished at 21:00.

The AA said the High Street was closed in both directions between Ashley Road and Hepworth Way because of the blaze.

Videos posted on social media showed smoke coming from the area.

The fire service said the blaze was believed to have started on the second floor.

All residents of the complex, which is made up of shops and homes, have been accounted for.

Surrey Police has been contacted for more information.
