Man who ran from police and dropped drugs jailed

A man who dropped heroin and cocaine as he tried to escape from police officers has been jailed.
Rene Ross, 25, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to more than three years in prison after being arrested in the town.
Ross, from Wolverhampton, was detained after officers from Northamptonshire's Police's Operation Revive team stopped a BMW on Colwyn Road.
The force said it would "continue to tenaciously enforce and disrupt drug dealers".
Police were on patrol on the afternoon of 13 July last year when they came across a black BMW X5.
They stopped the car and found Ross in a rear seat.
Officers asked him whether he had anything on him and he responded by running away.
He was caught quickly but fell to the ground, scattering a large number of coloured wraps.
He was arrested on suspicion with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Forty two of the wraps were found to contain heroin and 21 contained cocaine, with an estimated street value of between £735 and £840.
In court, Ross, of Falcon Crescent, Bilston, Wolverhampton, was given two sentences of three years and six months for possession with intent to supply the two drugs, which will run concurrently.
Lead investigator, Det Con Paul Sanderson, said: "I am pleased with the sentence handed to Rene Ross and hope this is seen as a deterrent to anyone who is thinking of dealing drugs within our communities."
