Man to stand trial over death of man in Aberdeen

A man is to stand trial charged with killing a father-of-seven in Aberdeen.

Derek Pearson, 46, is accused of attacking Steven Johnson the city's Carmelite Lane on 12 March last year.

Mr Johnson, 50, died two days later in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Mr Pearson denies the charge. His trial is due to take place next year.

The charge states that Mr Pearson pinned Mr Johnson against a wall with his elbow before the pair were involved in a struggle.

Mr Johnson was repeatedly punched and fell to the ground, falling unconscious after striking his head off the road and a parked car.

Mr Pearson is also charged with assaulting a woman in the incident by twisting her arms and grabbing her head and neck.

The trial is scheduled to begin in February. Mr Pearson will remain on bail.
