A boy has been arrested after a man was stabbed in a Devon street after being lured to what he thought was a meet-up for the sale of a computer.

Detectives said the man, in his 30s, suffered serious injuries during the attack in Majorfield Road, in Topsham, at about 20:30 GMT on Friday.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 16-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent.

He was released on police bail pending an investigation.

Police said the victim thought he was meeting someone who was selling a computer.

Instead he was "approached from behind and stabbed in the arm and hand" as he walked up the street.

He fled the scene and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition, officers said.

Door-to-door inquiries

Det Insp Michelle Westlake appealed for potential witnesses to come forward.

"This incident, while rare, will understandably cause concern in the community," she said.

“Neighbourhood officers have been conducting house-to-house inquiries and have been speaking to concerned members of the public."

She said officers "would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Majorfield Road, Fore Street or Holman Way around the time of the incident".

"We are specifically interested in speaking to a woman in a long coat as a potential witness who was seen in the area."
