Three Green Party town councillors in Oswestry have defected to the Liberal Democrats.

Jay Moore, Rosie Radford and Jonathan Upton have each decided to switch parties.

A Green Party spokesperson thanked them for contribution and said they respected their decision.

The Green Party was still in control of Oswestry Town Council, they added.

Liberal Democrat MP for North Shropshire, Helen Morgan said the new councillors would support her efforts to stand up for the town.

“I’m very supportive of Oswestry Town Council, I think they focus on issues that matter to local residents,” she said.

“We need more support for market towns, and they’re going to fight for resources in those towns.”

When she won her seat in December 2021, Ms Morgan was the first non-Conservative to win the seat since it was formed in 1983.

A Green Party spokesperson said: “Oswestry Town council remains controlled by the Green Party and we have worked hard to support local residents."
