A yellow wind warning covering parts of East and West Sussex has been issued.

The Met Office has put out a warning for "strong winds" from 07:00 GMT to 18:00 on Thursday.

Forecasters warned of possible power cuts, as well as disruption and delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

“There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties,” a Met Office spokesman said.

The warning covers as far east as Eastbourne and as far west as the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall.

The Met Office also warned that some roads and bridges could close due to the adverse weather conditions.

Deputy chief meteorologist Helen Caughey said: “It’s another very unsettled week for much of the UK, with heavy, blustery showers, longer spells of rain and also some strong winds.

“We will also need to monitor the winds with the potential for gales to develop around some coastal areas of the north at first, then later for some south and southwestern areas, especially as these may coincide with some high tides.”
