Annual inflation rate falls in Jersey

Increased housing costs had contributed to high inflation

The annual rate of inflation has fallen in Jersey over the last three months.

A report from Statistics Jersey found, external the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose 10.1% in the year to September, compared to 10.9% in the year to June.

In the 12 months to March the figure had been 12.7%.

Jersey's current rate remains above the Bank of England's target of keeping inflation at 2% or below.

The report found food prices had on average increased by 10% over the 12 months to September.

Housing costs increased by 26.2%, on average, over the same period.

This includes parish rates, rents, and mortgage interest payments which have been affected by increases in the Bank of England interest rate.
