A man who sexually assaulted a child over a two-year period has been jailed for eight years.

Arturas Opulskis, 41, of South Brink, Wisbech was found guilty of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 between 2016 and 2018.

Cambridgeshire Police said the girl eventually confided in a friend, and then an adult, resulting in Opulskis' arrest.

He had denied sexual assault but was found guilty at a trial at Peterborough Crown Court in September, and was sentenced at the same court on 9 February.

Det Con Jim Huddlestone said: "Opulskis’ crime was perpetrated against a young child. I hope the conclusion of the court process will help her and her family as they rebuild their lives."
