A man who crashed his car then claimed it had been stolen was filmed fleeing the scene.

Jahngir Khan, 20, of Burnett Avenue in Bradford, admitted committing an act with intent to pervert the course of justice and was jailed for eight months at Bradford Crown Court on Tuesday.

Shortly after the crash on Carrbottom Road in Little Horton last May, Khan rang police and reported his Peugeot 308 as stolen.

Yet the driver, who was already disqualified at the time, was caught on CCTV leaving the car on foot.

In his police interview, Khan claimed he had been under the influence of an unknown substance and could not remember making the call, West Yorkshire Police said.

He previously pleaded guilty at Bradford Magistrates' Court in October 2023 to driving while disqualified, failing to stop after a road traffic accident and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

He was given a suspended sentence.
