Two speeding drivers have been jailed after one hit and killed a man crossing a road in Doncaster.
Jordan Lill, 27, and Christopher Milsom, 34, had been driving at speeds of up to 95mph (153km/h) and overtaking each other on 30 July 2020, a court heard.
On Wheatley Hall Road at about 23:15 BST, the Jaguar XF driven by Lill hit 34-year-old pedestrian Carl Queen, who died later at the scene.
At Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday, both men were jailed for seven and a half years after earlier pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Mr Queen, 34, had just been dropped off by a taxi after an evening out and was crossing the road to get home, the court had heard.
A post-mortem examination later confirmed he died as a result of multiple injuries.
The court had been told that Lill, of Bushfield Road, Wath upon Dearne, Rotherham, stopped at the scene after the collision.
However, while Milsom, of Lyndhurst Crescent, Doncaster, had turned his Mercedes round and returned to the scene, he then fled and had to be tracked down by police.
'Senseless and callous'
Although it was the car driven by Lill which struck Mr Queen, both men had pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
The pair were also disqualified from driving for eight years and nine months.
PC Richard Thorley, from South Yorkshire Police’s Serious Collisions Unit, said: "Lill and Milsom's behaviour that night was utterly senseless and callous, with both driving at speeds far in excess of the 40mph speed limit.
“Their actions resulted in the death of a pedestrian who was simply making his way home after an evening out.
"Following our investigation, I am pleased both men pleaded guilty and will now spend time behind bars.
“My thoughts remain with Carl's family as they continue to come to terms with their tragic loss."
