Former police station to be demolished for new homes

A plan to demolish a vacant police station and replace it with homes has been given the go-ahead.
Elstree Land applied for permission to knock down the former Langley police station in High Street and erect 29 homes in its place.
The station has been vacant since Thames Valley Police left it in 2018.
Slough Borough Council approved the proposal at a meeting on 24 July.
It was owned by the council, which previously hoped to convert the station into a community hub and affordable housing.
Planning permission for that was granted in 2021.
But this plan was abandoned after the council went effectively bankrupt in 2022, resulting in it selling off properties to pay off debts.
It agreed to sell the police station in March and had already been in discussions with Elstree Land about its proposals.
Nine of the new homes will be used for affordable housing.
