A major road in Gloucestershire is to close for two weekends as a new highway layout takes shape.

The A436 between the Air Balloon Roundabout and Seven Springs Roundabout will shut between 21.00 BST on Friday 31 May and 06.00 BST on June 3.

It will close between the same hours from 7 June to 10 June.

The closure is part of the A417 Missing Link project, which will see a new contraflow installed in July.

Northbound drivers have been asked to follow the A435 and A40 and southbound drivers the same route but in reverse.

When finished, it is hoped the £460m scheme will improve traffic from Gloucester to Swindon and Cirencester by introducing extra lanes.

There will also be overnight weekday closures in June as temporary changes are made to the road layout around Nettleton Bottom and Cowley Roundabout to allow for the next stages of National Highways works.

A new contraflow will be in place from 1 July, along with narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 40mph.
