Woman arrested after man found dead at flat fire

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead at the scene of a fire in a property in East Sussex.

Emergency services were called to Preston Road, in Brighton, at around 04:00 GMT on Sunday.

A 50-year-old man was confirmed dead at the scene, Sussex Police said.

The force said a woman, aged 36 and from Brighton, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said the blaze was in a basement flat of a three-storey building.

It said the cause of the fire, which was extinguished shortly before 09:00, was unknown.

Sussex Police said it was investigating the circumstances and urged anyone with information to come forward.

A road closure was in place on Preston Road, from Ditchling Rise to the junction of Stanford Avenue on Sunday.

People were being urged to use alternative routes while emergency services work in the area.
