A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a supermarket in Stoke-on-Trent.

The fire started inside a Farmfoods shop on Moorland Road, Burslem, according to Staffordshire Police.

Officers have been at the scene alongside Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service since about 13:00 BST on Thursday, they said.

People were asked to avoid the area whilst emergency services worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

Earlier, two neighbouring buildings were evacuated and people in the area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Fire crews said they used hose reel jets, breathing apparatus and ventilation equipment to contain the fire and stop it from spreading.
