Two children seriously injured in dog attack

Two children, including a two-year-old girl, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a dog in Barnsley.

Police were called to Broadwater in Bolton-upon-Dearne at about 08:15 BST following reports a man, a nine-year-old boy and the girl had been bitten.

South Yorkshire Police said the dog had been caught and remained in "police care".

A 46-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.

The injured man was treated by the ambulance service at the scene.

The dog is also reported to have attacked another dog, seriously harming the animal.

It was found on Ingfield Lane and a member of the public managed to grab its collar.

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact the police.
