Road safety measures installed after fatal crashes

West Yorkshire's assistant coroner urged changes at the site after three people died in crashes

Safety measures have been introduced on a street where three people have died in recent traffic incidents.
Street lighting, a warning sign and a chevron board were placed at the corner of Buck Street and Dryden Street in Bradford after a coroner's recommendation, the council said.
The coroner urged action after Mohammed Azad Khan and Arsalan Khalid Baig, both 24, were killed in July 2022 when the car driven by Mr Khan crashed into a wall on the 90-degree bend.
A Bradford Council spokesperson said: "We've carefully considered the Prevention of Future Deaths report. Following the collision, measures were installed at the location to raise awareness of the sharp left-hand turn on to Buck Street."
They added that the crash in which the two men died was "a terrible tragedy, and our thoughts remain with the families and friends of Mohammed Azad Khan and Arsalan Khalid Baig".
Another fatal collision occurred on the same bend when a pick-up truck crashed into the wall in October 2023, killing the 33-year-old driver.

Arsalan Baig died in the collision in July 2022
An inquest into Mr Baig and Mr Khan's deaths heard Mr Khan had been driving at about twice the road's 30mph (48km/h) speed limit and had cannabis in his system.
Bradford Coroner's Court heard another passenger accompanying Mr Khan and Mr Baig suffered a broken leg in the crash, which took place at about 23:30 BST on 30 July 2022.
Assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst, who delivered a narrative verdict into the men's deaths, told Bradford Council that action should be taken to make the sharp bend safer.
Ms Brocklehurst said the street had been "badly lit", with the bend and brick wall at the end of Dryden Street "obscured" by the darkness as a result.
"No warning road signs were placed to warn drivers of the dead end of the street or the left turn in advance," she said.
"The absence of which together with insufficient street lighting may in all probability have contributed to the fatal accident ensuing."
According to Bradford Council, the changes at the site included a new street lighting column to make the corner more visible for approaching traffic, a "Left Bend Ahead" warning sign on a high-visibility board, and a chevron board to highlight the bend and boundary wall.
The council spokesperson added: "These kind of warning and chevron signs are normally used on higher speed roads, but we judged it appropriate for this location."
