A road in Nottingham city centre will remain closed into next week as "complex" repairs are carried out following a burst hydrant.

A jet of water, some 30ft (9.1m) high, was pushed out of the road surface in Shakespeare Street, causing flooding on Monday 8 September.

Shakespeare Street eastbound has been shut between North Church Street and Mansfield Road while work takes place.

Severn Trent said it now expects to complete the repairs and resurfacing "by the start of next week".

Nottingham City Transport said the closure was affecting its Pink 28, 30 and Orange 35 and 36 routes.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: "Following a burst hydrant on Shakespeare Street, our teams are continuing to work hard to put the road back to normal and safe again.

"These are complex repairs and if they go to plan, we're hoping work will be completed by the start of next week.

"We understand how disruptive any roadworks can be and really appreciate everyone's patience as we work to get the road reopened as quickly as possible."
