A man who groomed a young woman before violently raping her has been jailed.

Daniel Brassington, from Carterton, Oxfordshire, coerced his victim into having contact with him through "fear of violence", police said.

The 47-year-old was found guilty following a trial at Oxford Crown Court of two rapes, as well as two two counts of assault by penetration.

He was sentenced to 14 years with an extended four years on licence.

Thames Valley Police said it had arrested and charged Brassington with the offences in February.

Following the sentencing, Det Sgt Matt Richardson said: "Darren Brassington violently raped and sexually abused the victim, a young woman who he had groomed and coerced through fear of violence into having contact with him only a month prior.

"The victim in this case has been incredibly brave.

"Without her support I have no doubt that Brassington would have continued to pose a risk to any female who had the misfortune of coming into contact with him. I am very grateful for her unwavering support throughout this case.

"I hope that the victim can continue on the road to recovery knowing that Brassington was found guilty and jailed as a result of his actions."
