Developers plan 228 homes on edge of village

A development off Barnards Drive was approved in principle four years ago

Developers have lodged detailed plans to build 228 homes on farmland on the edge of a Leicestershire village.
Countryside Properties UK wants to build the homes on a 28.5 acre (11.55 hectare) site off Barnards Close in Sileby.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service said development of the area was approved in principle in 2021.
However, documents outlining the specifics of the plan have now been submitted to Charnwood Borough Council.
The latest papers show the firm aims to build six one-bed homes, 45 two-bed houses, 137 three-bed properties and 40 four-bed homes.
The LDRS said 69 of the homes would be classed as affordable.
More than 40 objections to the scheme were sent to the council in 2021 by residents who expressed fears over highway safety and road congestion, pressure on local services and facilities, the loss of greenfield land and trees, and the impact on privacy.
The developer said new houses were needed in the village.
The council is expected to make a decision on the latest application in the coming months.
