Boy arrested on suspicion of murder after stabbing

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed in Hailsham.

Sussex Police said emergency services were called to the Vicarage Field area at about 18:20 BST to reports a man had suffered a serious chest injury.

The victim, in his 20s, was treated by paramedics but confirmed dead at the scene.

Ch Insp James Scott said: "Our thoughts are with the family of this young man as we seek to understand exactly what happened this evening".

The force said the suspect, who remained in custody, was found at a property in the town.

Ch Insp Scott said: “This is a tragic incident which I know will be distressing for the community."

He said a "significant" police presence would remain in the area on Thursday night as part of the investigation and to offer reassurance to the community.
