An infant school has been forced to close due to severe flooding, a fire service has said.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue service was called to Mill Rythe Infant School on Hayling Island at around 06:30 BST.

Hampshire County Council confirmed the school had closed after the fire service was called.

Posting on social media, the school confirmed roof works had caused "significant damage" to the building's electrics.

The post added, external that the school currently had no working phones or email.

A fire service spokesperson said crews found severe flooding had affected the fire alarms and the incident had been handed over to the site's caretaker.
