Charity launches pre-loved school uniform campaign

A charity has launched a back-to-school campaign, to help local families with uniform costs.
Vulnerable families in Shropshire are referred to Little Stars, which gives out baby parcels, children's clothing, school uniforms, and Christmas presents.
The campaign, Back-to-School Ready, encourages people to donate pre-loved, non-branded uniforms, or donate to its fundraiser.
"Starting a new school year should be filled with excitement and anticipation. However, many children face anxiety due to ill-fitting or inadequate uniforms," the charity said.
'Significant financial strain'
"This campaign aims to eliminate that worry, allowing children to focus on their education and fit in with their peers."
According to the charity, the average cost of a secondary school uniform can reach up to £290, and primary school uniforms about £130.
"With these figures, it's no surprise that having to buy new items each year, as well as between terms, for one or more children, puts significant financial strain on parents," it said.
The uniforms would be distributed through community hubs and referrals from health professionals and schools.
Donation bins have been set up at Tesco Extra stores in Shrewsbury and Ellesmere, and Morrisons in Shrewsbury and Oswestry.
Members of the public can also sponsor a uniform by donating to their fundraiser campaign.
"While some items are well-supplied, we often face shortages in specific sizes and branded school wear, particularly for secondary schools where branded jumpers and ties are mandatory," it added.
"School bags and stationery are further expenses that many families cannot afford, yet they are crucial for a child's school day."
