A health club and nursery are set to close their doors after more than three decades serving families in a Surrey village.
The Pavilion Club, along with Little Crickets Nursery on Hurst Lane, East Molesey, are expected to shut down in December following the potential sale of the site.
The club's managing director, Chris Richard, wrote in a letter to members that the prospective buyer did not intend to continue operating the club and nursery.
A "major refurbishment" lasting up to a year is planned and it would "not be safe or practical to continue operating the business alongside", he added.
The Pavilion, which first opened 32 years ago, has been a fixture of Molesey life, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
The venue has tennis courts, a gym, swimming pool, and puts on social events. The attached nursery has also been popular with parents.
People have taken to social media to say they are "shocked and saddened" at the announcement, the LDRS reported.
Members have been told that any fees paid beyond the closure date will be refunded.
The letter said: "Whilst there is no getting away from the sadness of this proposed change, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the incredible loyalty and support our members have shown us throughout.
No details have yet been released about what the refurbished site will become once works are complete.
