A girl has died in hospital after being hit by a sport utility vehicle in a village on the Norfolk-Suffolk border.

The pedestrian, understood to have been of secondary school age, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, following the collision with a blue Dacia Duster on Saturday at about 17:30 GMT on Lynn Road in Weeting, near Thetford.

The road was closed until the early hours of Sunday while emergency services, including ambulance and air ambulance crews, attended the scene.

Norfolk Police has appealed for any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to contact them. The driver is assisting police with its investigation, the force added.
