Fans jailed for role in post-match violence

Disorder broke out in John William Street and St George's Square near Huddersfield Station

Five football fans have been jailed after violent disorder broke out between rival supporters following a game between Huddersfield Town and Millwall.

Trouble flared close to Huddersfield Station on 29 October 2022, with around 100 people involved in what police described as "disgraceful" scenes.

The five men, who were sentenced for one count of affray each at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, were all given football banning orders, alongside a sixth man who was spared jail.

Ch Insp Peter Hall of West Yorkshire Police, said: "There is absolutely no place for football related disorder in our grounds or on our streets, and we welcome the sentencing of these men."

Jamie Lomax, 44, of Hall Cross Road, Huddersfield, was jailed for 14 months and received an eight year football banning order.

Kane Lomax, 21, of Hall Cross Road, Huddersfield, was jailed for six months and received a six year football banning order.

Sean Maguire, 39, of Bromley Road, in Hanging Heaton, Batley, received a 10-month prison sentence and an eight year football banning order

Christopher Lendon, 49, of Britannia Road, Huddersfield, was jailed for eight months and given a six year football banning order.

Ben Lodge, 24, of Brookroyd Lane, Birstall, received a six-month prison sentence and a six year football banning order.

Will Haywood, 25, of New Road ,in Huddersfield, received a six-month prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months. He was also given a three-year football banning order and told to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work.

Mr Hall added: "The scenes we witnessed in Huddersfield town centre on 29 October 2022 were disgraceful and, as a result of their involvement, these men have now all received lengthy bans from attending any UK football match."
