A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a house in Southport, police have said.

Merseyside Police said a "sadly deceased" man, who was aged in his 70s, was discovered by paramedics at an address on Braemar Avenue at about 23:50 GMT on Sunday.

The force said his death was being treated as "unexplained" and a post-mortem examination would take place to establish how he died.

Appealing for information, a police representative said a 52-year-old man has been held on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
