A convicted murderer has been given an additional sentence after knocking a prison officer unconscious.

Christopher Walters, 35, was convicted in 2013 of murdering a man in London in May of the previous year.

He launched an unprovoked attack on the officer at HMP Whitemoor, March, Cambridgeshire, punching him twice in the face, on 16 January, Cambridge Crown Court heard on Tuesday.

Walters, originally from Neasdon, in London, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 13 months in prison, to serve concurrently with his existing sentence.

The prison officer was taken to hospital for treatment and discharged the same day, according to Cambridgeshire Police.
