Car park fully reopens after extensive repair work

A car park in East Sussex has fully reopened after extensive repairs to a historic wall at risk of collapse.
Last year, the Westgate Car Park in Lewes was forced to close because the flint wall in Westgate Street was shifting.
Emergency shoring-up was required and further investigation showed additional risks of the wall collapsing at different points, Lewes District Council said.
Sections of the car park had reopened in the summer, with the final area coming back into use on Tuesday.
Councillor Nick Kortalla-Bird said the reopening was cause to celebrate for both residents and businesses.
"The timing is particularly welcome as Westgate Street forms part of the Lewes Borough Bonfire Society procession route,” he said.
The event, planned for 5 November, is expected to see tens of thousands of spectators line the street of Lewes.
