Charlie Ross, presenter of Bargain Hunt, said filming in Somerset is "wonderful"

The team behind BBC One's Bargain Hunt has been busy filming new episodes ahead of the show's 25th anniversary next year.

Crews spent time at the Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, Somerset, with contestants from the area last week.

The show often draws in around two million viewers, with roughly 40% of all people watching TV at midday tuned in to it, according to the production team.

Philip Serrell, one of the show's on-screen experts, said: "We’re very lucky people to do what we do."

The show follows two teams - red and blue - of amateur collectors who try their luck at an antiques fair to acquire the best bargain finds with a limited budget.

They are accompanied by an expert to inform their decision making, before taking the items to sell at a real auction.

The team with the greatest profit or smallest loss at the end wins the game.

Alan and Shirley made up the red team, while Carol and Cathy made up the blue team

Tim Weeks, one of the show's on-screen experts, said he "loves" filming in his home county.

He followed his father's footsteps, after watching him work as an auctioneer every Saturday.

"As I got older I got into it. I started working at the auction house holding up the items and I loved everything about it.

"It is the best job in the world - the history that you see and to be part of Bargain Hunt is a dream come true," he said.

The casting team sources members of the public who work through an application process to secure a place on the show.

Four teams of two took part in the latest shoot in Somerset.

In one of the episodes based in Somerset, contestants include Carl and Kim on the red team and Kirsty and Simon on the blue team

Tim Holt, one of the directors of Bargain Hunt, has worked on the production team on-and-off for a decade, alongside other BBC shows.

He said the team is "pleased" with the popularity of the programme and promised a memorable celebratory episode to mark the 25th anniversary of the show in March.

Charlie Ross joined Bargain Hunt about 15 years ago and often presents the show, alongside others.

Mr Ross said he has been to the Bath and West Showground many times before and finds it "wonderful", with the latest shoot there going "swimmingly".

"It's totally fascinating and that's one of the things about Bargain Hunt - as a presenter, we do go to some interesting places."

The episodes filmed in the county are expected to air early next year on BBC One.
