Police appeal after machete fight sees man injured

A man has been arrested after a fight involving a group with knives and a machete led to a man being injured.
Essex Police said it was investigating an assault in Southchurch Road, Southend-on-Sea, shortly after 00:15 BST on Sunday where a group of men, some with faces covered, were seen fighting with weapons.
The force said officers arrived within 10 minutes of being contacted and found one man had suffered non-life threatening injuries. He has received hospital treatment.
A 32-year-old from Coventry has since been arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in custody for questioning.
Investigations were continuing in Southend with a visible police presence in the area.
Ch Insp Paul Hogben said: “I would ask anyone who may have information about this incident, or concerns, to please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
“We take incidents of this nature very seriously and the Southend community can expect a robust response and investigation.
“We have a dedicated team conducting the investigation into this incident and we will issue updates as we progress.”
The seaside town has seen several incidences of violent attacks over recent years.
Bayo Alaba, the MP for Southend East and Rochford, said on social media, external the incident was very concerning.
"This is deeply alarming and I have reached out to the police for an update and to understand what action has been taken. I will update as soon as I know more," he said.
