A man has been arrested after a pupil was assaulted outside a school in West Sussex.

Officers were made aware of concerns about a man acting suspiciously outside a primary school in Buckingham Road, Shoreham, at about 09:00 GMT on Tuesday.

The pupil was not physically injured, a Sussex Police spokesperson said.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of common assault and possession of cannabis, and has since been bailed.

The force said it was working with partners, including the school, to ensure children were appropriately safeguarded.

"Officers will continue to carry out patrols in the area to provide further reassurance," the spokesperson added.

Further police enquiries remain ongoing.
