A 21-year-old woman has died in a two-car crash on the A98 near Banff.

The accident, involving a blue Honda Civic and a grey BMW X5, happened at 19:15 on Wednesday.

The woman, who was driving the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland has appealed for any witnesses to get in touch., external

The A98 was closed to allow for the emergency services to deal with the incident, and for investigators to examine the scene.

It has since reopened.

Sgt Lesley Morrison said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has died at this difficult time.

"Inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

"We also ask anyone with dash-cam footage of the area at the time to come forward."
