Boy, 17, charged over reports of explosive device

A 17-year-old boy has appeared in court, after a small number of properties were evacuated on Thursday following reports of an explosive device.

The boy, from Stafford, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with making threats to kill, threat to damage/destroy property and two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a private place.

He appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Friday and was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance at Stafford Crown Court on 26 September.

Officers said on Thursday they were treating it as an isolated incident.
