A fire that burnt out a kitchen started from an air fryer, a fire service has said.

Crews from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service were called to a property in Weymouth, Dorset, on Monday, and found the device among a fully-developed fire in the kitchen.

A spokesperson said: "The owner noticed an unusual crackling sound coming from their air fryer so removed the food thinking this may be the cause, but when the noises continued, quickly raised the alarm."

The owner was instructed to leave the property by fire service staff and was uninjured.

There was extensive damage to the kitchen, and smoke damage to the property.

The fire service advised that if anyone with an air fryer hears crackling, smells smoke, or sees sparking, they should unplug immediately if safe to do so, and "get out, stay out and call 999".
