Man charged as biker remains in critical condition

A man has been charged with dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a two-vehicle crash.
There were reports of an altercation before a grey Ford Fiesta car and a motorcycle were in collision on the A183 Whitburn Road in Whitburn, in South Tyneside and near Sunderland, at about 19:40 BST on Thursday, said Northumbria Police.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition.
Police said Robert Cottam, 33, from Whitburn, was due to appear in court.
The road was closed overnight but reopened on Friday.
Police urged anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the crash to contact them.
