Lifeboat crews spell out RNLI birthday in photos

Lifeboat crews have marked the milestone birthday of the RNLI with special photographs to honour the charity.

Members of Hunstanton RNLI posed for the One Moment for One Crew to create a photographic record of those involved with the lifesaving charity.

This year the RNLI has celebrated 200 years of saving lives at sea, with services held across the United Kingdom to mark the event.

Crews from across Norfolk, including Sheringham, Happisburgh, Hunstanton, Great Yarmouth and Gorleston - all got involved.

Crew members also spelt out the birthday for the photo of Sheringham RNLI.

The charity, which was founded in 1824, asked its volunteers and staff from around the UK and Ireland to take a photo of themselves, their crew or their team, at as close to 18:24 on 1 August (1.8.24) as possible.

The One Moment One Crew picture commemorates the staff and volunteers representing their RNLI role wherever they may be on this date and at this time.

Since the RNLI was founded, its volunteer crews and lifeguards have saved more than 146,000 lives.

Anjie Rook, RNLI associate director, said: "During our 200th anniversary year we have been remembering our past, celebrating the lifesaving service we provide today, and aiming to inspire future generations of lifesavers and supporters.

"One Moment for One Crew is very much about celebrating the people of today's RNLI and, we hope, inspiring those future generations who will take the RNLI into its third century of lifesaving."
