BBC North West Tonight has celebrated the 40th anniversary of its first programme.

The daily news bulletin was first broadcast from the BBC studios on Manchester's Oxford Road on 3 September 1984, before moving to the corporation's new base at Salford's MediaCityUK in 2011.

Over the years, its presenters and reporters have become household names as they delivered the serious and light-hearted sides of the region to millions of viewers.

Current presenter Roger Johnson took a look back at its four decades of broadcasting, speaking to former anchor Gordon Burns and highlighting some of the show's much-loved stalwarts, including weather presenter Dianne Oxberry and chief reporter Dave Guest.
