Spilsby Surgery will reopen after it was closed "with immediate effect" on Monday

A GP surgery that was closed suddenly will reopen its doors to patients on Monday, health officials have confirmed.

Spilsby Surgery, which has 7,455 patients, was closed "with immediate effect" on 29 September, after the NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) announced the GP partners would no longer be providing care.

The ICB said the surgery would reopen on 6 October, from 09:00 BST, with care provided for patients by Lincolnshire and District Medical Services (LADMS).

"We anticipate there will be high demand, which we will be prioritising on clinical need," an ICB spokesperson said.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said it removed the surgery's partnership from its register on 15 September after partners left "without proper notification".

Patients were met with a vacant building and a sign on the door on Monday and raised concerns over how elderly people would "really struggle" with the closure.

'Significant backlog'

The ICB advised patients with "routine matters" to contact the surgery later in the week.

"The Co-op Pharmacy staff in Spilsby are working very hard to clear a significant backlog, with significant progress in the past 24 hours, while maintaining safe and efficient dispensing.

"ICB staff have been supporting patients and staff at the Co-op Pharmacy to help speed up prescription access," the ICB added.

Patients were advised to only contact NHS 111 for urgent repeat medication and to use other local pharmacies where possible.

"People who have enough medication can help us by waiting, since this will help us support those in greatest need," the ICB said.
