A car has been "deliberately" driven into a house in a North Yorkshire village, police have said.

Emergency services were called after reports the vehicle had collided with a property in Grey Fold, Byram, near Selby, at 23:06 GMT on Monday.

North Yorkshire Police said no one was injured in the incident but the house had required structural support, with an inspection due to take place to assess the full extent of the damage.

The force said officers were working to trace the driver and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to locate the driver and to understand the full circumstances surrounding the incident as we believe the car was deliberately driven into the house.

"The investigation is underway, and there is nothing in our enquiries so far to suggest there is a wider risk to the community.

"If anyone witnessed the incident, or has any information that could help our investigation."
