Fisherman seriously injured after riverbank attack

A fisherman is in hospital with serious head injuries after being assaulted on a riverbank.

According to North Yorkshire Police, the man, who is in his 30s, was attacked on the banks of the River Foss near Peasholme Centre and Castle Mills Marina in York between 23:30 and 00:30 BST on Friday.

Detectives are appealing for the two men the victim had been fishing with earlier in the evening, to come forward, along with any other witnesses who were in the area at the time.

Police are also asking anyone who has CCTV or doorbell cameras that may have captured the incident to get in touch.
