Repairs to be carried out on 'dangerous' junction

Mick Shirley said there were always "minor bumps and prangs" happening at the island

Repair works are set to take place on a mini roundabout in Nottinghamshire that has been labelled a "death trap".
Residents who live near the junction of Ilkeston Road and Pasture Road in Stapleford said it had become "very dangerous" due to road markings disappearing.
One of the residents, Mick Shirley, who has lived near the junction for 53 years, said: "Any stranger going by wouldn't know it's an island... and you get several situations where there are near accidents and actual accidents."
Nottinghamshire County Council said interim repairs would be done "in the next few weeks" and acknowledged the road had deteriorated.
Mr Shirley said he wanted to see this done as soon as possible, so that "people know it is an island".

Nottinghamshire County Council said it already had plans to refresh the road markings
The 77-year-old added: "The paint that denotes it as a mini island is almost non-existent, and there's quite a few potholes and bad road surfaces that make it even harder [for unfamiliar drivers] as well."
Jenny Lamplough, 63, said the damage on the road was very bad.
"At the end of the day, if you come down at any speed and hit these potholes, your cars are going to fly," she said.
"The number of times I come flying out of the house because you hear all the bangs and cracks - it's just not a good roundabout."

There is no white circle remaining to denote the junction as a mini roundabout
A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire County Council said: "We acknowledge the deterioration to the road surface and road markings on the roundabout at the junction of Ilkeston Road and Pasture Road in Stapleford.
"Works to refresh the road markings were scheduled for this year, although repairs to the road surface are required before these works take place.
"We will be undertaking interim repairs to the surface in the next few weeks, subject to permit approval, and re-lining will take place at the same time or shortly after.
"We are also assessing Pasture Road for further resurfacing treatments in a future programme."
