Oxford Magistrates Court will temporarily close in January

A court is to close for about six months so it can undergo "vital improvement works", including a roof replacement.

HM Courts Service said Oxford Magistrates Court would temporarily close in January "to ensure the building is fit for everyone who uses it".

A spokesperson said cases would be moved to Reading Magistrates Court, High Wycombe Magistrates Court, and Milton Keynes Magistrates Court for the period of the closure.

It is expected to re-open in July.

The works are part of a £148.5m nationwide Ministry of Justice maintenance programme to improve the condition of court buildings.

The BBC understands the three courts taking up Oxford's caseload will not need to be open for additional hours during the six-month period.
