A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Devon and Cornwall.

The warning is in place until 21:00 GMT on Sunday.

Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected and up to 70mph around the coast and on hills. Forecasters have said there could be delays to public transport and disruption on the roads.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, the cabinet member for highways at Devon County Council, said the region could see "trees coming down".

He said: "With [gusts of up to 70 mph] and I suppose with the rain forecast, the ground already saturated... we're going to see more trees coming down."

Great Western Railway said trains between Exeter St Davids and Okehampton have been suspended until later on Sunday due to "forecasted severe weather".

Crew members for the RNLI have said they are ready if they are needed.

Steve Walter, a crew member of one of the RNLI's all-weather lifeboats, said: "We see a lot of big wind coming in and big seas.

"We'll be ready to go as and when we're required."
