Five people were arrested after a number of police officers were injured during an incident in a Lincolnshire market town.

Lincolnshire Police said officers were attacked after responding to reports of disorder in Dolphin Lane, Boston, in the early hours of Saturday.

Two people were arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before officers were attacked, the force said.

A 20-year-old man was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker and being drunk and disorderly.

He has been bailed to appear in court at a later date, police said.

A 29-year-old man was also bailed after being arrested on suspicion of the same offence, as have two women, aged 28 and 34, who were arrested on suspicion of affray.

Another 20-year-old man received a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly, the force said.

Lincolnshire Police said officers were continuing to investigate an earlier incident on Church Street in the town on Friday in which officers were also attacked.

Ch Insp Rich Nethercott said: “An attack on a police officer is never acceptable.

"Our officers so often put themselves in harm’s way to protect the public and keep people safe and we are thankful that the injuries they sustained were only minor.

“We are continuing to investigate both incidents and we have already made several arrests.

“There are several lines of enquiry that we are currently pursuing, and I’d appeal to anyone with information to contact us," he added.
