A man has been jailed for 10 years after he was found guilty of killing his girlfriend by dangerous driving.
Joshua Bromley, 25, from Leamington Spa, was speeding at about 80mph in heavy rain and under the influence of cannabis when he lost control of his car on the A423 near Marton, Warwickshire, in November 2022.
His 27-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Lees, was seriously injured in the collision and later died in hospital.
Bromley, of Wackrill Drive, had passed his driving test 10 months earlier. He was also disqualified from driving for five years when he was sentenced on Thursday at Warwick Crown Court.
Det Sgt Drew Ballantyne from Warwickshire Police said that it had been a "long investigation period" for Ms Lees' family.
"We hope that Bromley now takes responsibility for what he has done and that other new and inexperienced drivers take the opportunity to learn from this tragic case," he said.
Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership has called for greater measures to improve the safety new drivers, such as restrictions on passengers and distractions such as loud music.
