A man has been charged after a derelict pub in Grimsby was badly damaged in an arson attack.

Emergency services were called to the site of the former Mariners Rest pub on Albion Street at about 19:30 BST on 16 August after reports of a man climbing on to the roof and starting a fire.

The roof was destroyed by the blaze, which also caused widespread damage to the rest of the building, police said.

Humberside Police said a 28-year-old man, of no fixed address, had been charged with arson with intent, public nuisance and drugs offences.

He has been remanded in custody to appear in court at a later date, a police spokesperson added.
