A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance after a "suspicious package" was found at an address.

Kent Police and bomb disposal specialists from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) were called to North View in Hersden, near Canterbury, shortly after 14:00 BST on Monday.

A police spokesperson said the package was seized and later found to pose no risk to the public. A cordon that was put in place as a precaution has since been lifted.

The arrested man remained in custody, they added.

The MOD has been approached for comment.
