A woman in her 20s has died in a crash that caused a stretch of the M4 to be closed for about 11 hours.
She was driving a dark grey Volkswagen Polo eastbound between junction 13 at Newbury and junction 12 at Theale when it left the carriageway and fell into a verge at about 22:00 on Sunday.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been informed and is being supported by officers.
Thames Valley Police, which reopened the motorway at about 10:00, has appealed for witnesses and launched an investigation.
National Highways said investigation work took hours and that "clean-up and infrastructure repair work" had also been needed.
Fire crews from Newbury, Hungerford and Theale stations attended for about an hour and 50 minutes and made the scene safe before handing over to police, the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
