Man arrested over murder of woman outside church

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was shot dead outside a church in north-west London.

Michelle Sadio, 44, was standing amongst mourners outside the River of Life Elim Pentecostal Church on Gifford Road in Harlesden, when shots were fired at about 21:30 GMT on 14 December, the Met Police said.

The 44-year-old died at the scene, while two men, both aged in their 30s, were also injured. One remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition, the other has been discharged following treatment, the force added.

Police say the gun was fired from a black Kia Niro with distinctive alloys.

Following the shooting, the car was driven to Barnhill Road where it was abandoned and set alight, the Met said.

The 18-year-old was arrested on Wednesday and remains in police custody.

'Senseless act'

Det Ch Insp Phil Clarke, who is leading the police investigation, said: "While this arrest marks a significant step forward in this investigation, we continue to appeal for anyone with information about Michelle's murder to come forward and speak to us.

"This was a senseless act of violence that resulted in an innocent woman being killed.

"Michelle's family continue to grieve and we are determined to ensure those responsible face the consequences of their actions.
